a1 Institute of Chess
The a1 Institute of Chess’, Which in its two previous avatars was called ‘Paul Morphy Chess Academy’ and ‘Learn Chess Mumbai ‘respectively, was founded in the year 2000 with the aim of popularising the game among children in the age group of 6-18 years, the academy endeavours to provide students with methodized and structured chess-training in an enjoyable manner. Now, in the vanguard of chess-training in Mumbai, the institute, through its team of dedicated trainers, conducts regular chess-activities like classroom training, online training, training in schools, clubs and small private groups for all playing-levels
Headed by a FIDE Instructor, the Institute uses very qualified chess instructors. For teaching chess, trainers who have put in a healthy number of years in coaching as well as playing are necessary, as only they would have the knowledge and skill required to help pull students up the learning ladder. We don’t just introduce concepts; we teach mastery. Only a qualified chess instructor would be able to do that. Chess is very complex after the initial stages, hence to understand their students better it is extremely important for the coaches to have trodden a similar path the students are likely to take. Chess has a long, steep learning curve in the beginning. One of the keys is to keep students engaged long enough for them to add building blocks to their game. Once they reach this minimum level of competency, it can actually become easier to learn more advanced concepts once a strong foundation has been laid.
